| About NGA Mission NGA, Inc- "New Clothes for New Tomorrows" mission is to improve the quality of life for economically disadvantaged individuals in the United States by collecting and distributing to them NEW gifts of clothes, linens, and personal care items. NGA National Headquarters located in Bucks County, PA gladly accepts new clothes from individual donors, manufacturers and retailers. Our hours are Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:00pm. NGA's mission has volunteer chapters across the country that are called branches. Branch Responsibility Branches are made of volunteers who collect gifts of NEW clothes and personal care items from individuals, merchants, clubs, religious congregations, etc. These items are then distributed to economically disadvantaged people in the branch's community through registered agencies.
Board of Trustees NGA is governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees consisting of 15-25 members who assume responsibility for the corporation and lead the national committees. The Board elects its officers and meets 5 times a year with committee meetings alternate months. NGA National has a staff of 3 full time employees. Quick Facts
History The organization began in England in 1882 following
a mine In 1885 Mrs. Harpence, from Philadelphia, was impressed with the work that was being done. She shared the concept with her niece, Laura Safford, who in turn told a group with whom she met. Her friends agreed to help her sew for the needy, and NGA was founded in Philadelphia in 1885. NGA was later incorporated in Pennsylvania in 1896. Since that time, NGA has helped many needy neighbors. We have also helped the needy during the Spanish-American War, the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, World War I and II, Hurricane Andrew, and Hurricane Floyd. [Back to Top] [Home] |
