“Linking the Past to the Future”

“There is no charity that appeals more to children than the Needlework Guild of America, as it was started for children and begun by very young girls.” Annual Report, 1935

Mimicking the In-Gatherings of 1885, Modern Day In-Gatherings will provide local elementary, middle and high schools, youth organizations, church groups and community members with a historical, educational and community service experience. Located at Headquarters, the program includes a tour of the headquarters building, a historical and educational presentation, complete with artifacts, a picnic lunch on our grounds, and ending with a “Modern-Day In-Gathering” in which the participants will make a new garment to be donated to those in need.

What do you give someone celebrating their 125th Birthday? A museum!

With such an amazing history dating back to 1885, we can’t think of a better way to celebrate our special birthday. Originally, the board and staff were looking to transform the back building into a museum. However, in light of the economy and the ever-increasing number of people in need of our assistance, NGA appropriately decided to establish a “mini-museum” in the volunteer room.
